Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about Exotic Fish Cabo:

Why are your prices so high?

Los Cabos has a higher cost of living compared to other parts of Mexico, including more expensive gas—$5.10 per gallon! Plus, we have significant monthly expenses, such as costly dock rent, boat maintenance, and equipment like fishing rods and reels. When you factor in the costs of running the business and paying our dedicated crew, our prices are actually quite fair.

Do you offer discounts or rebates?

NO, we do not, but we provide the best fishing charter service in San Jose del Cabo. We appreciate your understanding and ask that you avoid negotiating on price.

Do you offer boat shares?

NO, our fishing trips are private and tailored exclusively for you.

Can I book a half-day trip?

We only offer 3/4 and full-day trips. Considering that travel time alone can take up to two hours—one hour to get to the fishing spots and another to return—a 4-hour trip may not give you the full experience you're hoping for.

What’s a typical day like on the water?

We depart at 6:30 AM. A Full Day trip lasts about 8 hours, while a 3/4 Day trip is around 6 hours. This includes travel time to and from the fishing spots. Our crew will ensure everything is set, and your Captain will take you to the best spots for the fish you want to catch.

Where is your boat located?

Our boat is docked at Pier B in Puerto Los Cabos Marina, San Jose del Cabo.

Do you offer fly fishing trips?

Absolutely! Just make sure to bring all your own fly fishing gear.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes, everyone aged 12 and up, whether fishing or not, needs a valid fishing license. You can get one online here https://bit.ly/3mnN5vx or at the marina for a bit more.

What should I bring for my fishing trip?

Feel free to bring sunscreen, a camera, binoculars, and any personal essentials. And don’t forget to bring a positive attitude! 😊

How should I dress for the trip?

Wear comfortable clothes, a hat, sunglasses, and either sneakers or sandals. In the cooler Fall and Winter mornings, a windbreaker or light jacket might be handy.

Can children join the fishing trip?

Yes! We love having kids on board and teaching them about fishing. Just make sure to protect them from the sun.

Are there catch limits?

Catch and release has no restrictions, but we’ll discuss specific limits for the species you’re targeting. In San Jose del Cabo, each angler can keep up to 5 fish per day, with limits on Marlin, Dorado, and Sailfish. Roosterfish are strictly catch and release.

Can we take fish home?

Yes, you can bring fish home, but they need to be frozen for plane travel. We offer freezing and filleting services at the Marina for an extra fee. Styrofoam coolers aren’t allowed, but you can buy hard plastic coolers from local stores like La Comer or Walmart.

Where can we buy live bait?

We get the fishing bait from our usual suppliers on the day of your trip. If you want to buy extra bait, please let your Captain know in advance.

What fish can we catch in San Jose del Cabo?

San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are famous for their Marlin fishing. You might also catch Dorado, Tuna, Wahoo, Roosterfish, Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, Grouper, and other shoreline fish.

How does fishing change with the seasons?

Fishing is great year-round, but the best time for certain species can vary. Warmer summer months generally offer the best conditions for most species.

What’s the right amount to tip the crew?

A tip of 10% to 20% of the total cost is customary. If the crew goes above and beyond, feel free to tip more. Please give the tip directly to the crew so they can divide it themselves.

Can we rent your boat for fishing tournaments?

Yes, we offer boat rentals for fishing tournaments in Cabo. Keep in mind that there’s usually an extra "Tournament Fee" for additional hours and fuel, typically about 30% more than a standard trip. If you win a prize, 20% of it goes to the crew, as required by local tournament rules. Contact us for more details on tournament rentals.
