Mahi-Mahi Mayhem: Cliff and Thomas Fishing in San José del Cabo

An Action-Packed Morning of Mahi-Mahi Fishing

January 2026 started with an unforgettable fishing adventure for Cliff, visiting from Texas, and Thomas, from California.

The two anglers joined Exotic Fish Cabo for a private fishing charter departing from Puerto Los Cabos Marina in San José del Cabo.

Their goal was simple: enjoy a day on the ocean and experience the excitement of catching mahi-mahi.

And the fish certainly gave them plenty of action.

Fishing approximately five miles offshore, the crew explored areas with floating vegetation, where mahi-mahi sometimes gather in search of food.

Using squid as bait and chum helped attract the attention of nearby fish.

Before long, the first mahi-mahi (dorado) appeared, their brilliant green, blue, and golden colors flashing beneath the surface.

Cliff was among the first to hook up, battling an energetic dorado reported at approximately 28 pounds.

Thomas soon joined the action, catching two mahi-mahi reported at around 18 pounds each.

But the highlight of the morning was still to come.

Cliff hooked another impressive dorado, this time reported at 32 pounds, making it his personal-best catch.

With patience, determination, and assistance from the crew, the anglers enjoyed an exciting series of encounters.

By late morning, the original fishing report recorded a remarkable tally of 15 fish, turning their outing into a memorable start to the new year.

For Cliff and Thomas, it wasn't just about the number of fish. It was about sharing the excitement, enjoying the ocean, and creating fishing memories worth remembering.
