San Jose del Cabo Fishing Log — October 5–11, 2026
Yellowfin Tuna Activity Improves at Vinorama and Gordo Banks Following Stormy Weather
Fishing conditions around San José del Cabo showed gradual improvement during the week of October 5–11, 2026. Following an extended period of unsettled weather, fishing departures resumed from Puerto Los Cabos Marina on Monday, October 5.
Water clarity was initially affected by the recent storms, but conditions became more favorable as the week progressed. Yellowfin tuna provided the most consistent offshore opportunities, with additional activity reported around several well-known fishing grounds.
Weather and Ocean Conditions
The previous storms brought heavy swells, wind and rainfall to the region, keeping the port closed from September 25 through October 4.
Fishing resumed on October 5, although discolored water affected some fishing areas during the first part of the week.
Water temperatures approached 90°F (32°C) across several offshore grounds. Improving visibility later in the week coincided with more productive fishing conditions.
Yellowfin Tuna — Vinorama
Vinorama was one of the more productive locations for yellowfin tuna during the second half of the week.
Most tuna reported in this area weighed approximately 20–50 pounds. Live and dead sardines were effective, supported by good bait availability.
Some morning outings produced two or three tuna, although results varied.
A particularly large 190-pound yellowfin tuna was reported at Vinorama on Friday, October 9, demonstrating the presence of substantially larger fish among the more common catches.
Gordo Banks — Larger Yellowfin Tuna
The Inner and Outer Gordo Banks also produced yellowfin tuna, although activity was less consistent than at Vinorama.
Fish in the 50–90-pound range were reported, along with occasional larger specimens.
A 190-pound yellowfin tuna was reported at Inner Gordo using a dead sardine.
Fishing pressure increased around these grounds during the week, making conditions and timing important considerations.
Iman Bank and La Fortuna — Bottom Fishing
Rocky structures around Iman Bank and La Fortuna offered opportunities for several bottom-dwelling species.
Reported activity included:
Snapper
Grouper
Amberjack
Triggerfish
These areas provided useful alternatives when offshore tuna activity was inconsistent.
Black Marlin Activity
A notable 615-pound black marlin was reported in the San José del Cabo fishing area on Wednesday, October 7.
This was an exceptional fish rather than a typical catch. Big-game encounters remain unpredictable, and even favorable conditions cannot guarantee a hookup.

Fishing Outlook
The improvement in water clarity, continued availability of sardines and warmer ocean temperatures provided encouraging conditions toward the end of the reporting period.
Vinorama offered more consistent yellowfin tuna opportunities, while the Gordo Banks remained a possible destination for anglers interested in larger fish.
Iman Bank and La Fortuna continued to offer alternatives for bottom fishing.
Fishing conditions can change quickly. Species, fishing areas and successful techniques depend on weather, currents, bait availability and activity on the day.
